Crestron's New TPMC-8X was unveiled at CEDIA sporting a full Windows® XP Embedded operating system, 1.5 GB of memory, and high-speed performance all wrapped up in a slim form and sleek magnesium casing. It looks, feels and acts expensive.

Embedded PC and Amazing Graphics
The TPMC-8X's embedded PC platform enables Web access via Internet Explorer, streaming media using Windows Media® Player 10, e-mail, and full PC applications such as MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint®, and Adobe® Acrobat® in a secure environment - all while providing intuitive control of AV distribution, lighting, climate control and security. The TPMC-8X integrates PC functionality, including Yahoo! Widgets, into touchpanel control.

Conferencing and VoIP Applications
Access data and run applications on other computers from the TPMC-8X via Remote Desktop, while onboard NetMeeting® and Skype™ applications enable conferencing and voice-over-IP directly from the touchpanel. Built-in Bluetooth enables the use of wireless devices such as a mouse and keyboard, while a USB 2.0 port is provided to connect wired devices. No external computers are necessary.

In addition to the wide range of streaming video formats supported by its onboard media player applications, the TPMC-8X also features native support for wireless streaming video from a variety of 3rd-party products using the motion-JPEG format. The TPMC-8X makes it easy to view video sources right on the touchscreen.

Audio Features and Biometrics
Built-in stereo speakers, 2 mics, and a stereo headphone output provide full audio functionality to complement the TPMC-8X's touchpanel, video, and computer capabilities. Customized WAV files can be loaded to add dimension to the touchscreen graphics with personalized sounds, button feedback, and voice prompts.

Long Lasting Wireless Operation
A field-replaceable Lithium Ion battery pack onboard the TPMC-8X provides fast-charging, long-lasting wireless operation without the "memory" issues typical of other rechargeable batteries. An external "booster" battery pack is also available, which clips neatly to the rear of the touchpanel, providing up to 4 hours total use between recharges. The optional desktop docking station provides a convenient charging solution while allowing the TPMC-8X to remain fully functional. An in-wall docking station will also be offered. Both docking stations enable wired Ethernet operation, and provide a VGA output for connection to an external display.
